NELSON MANDELA'S HISTORICAL TIME LINE

- 1918               - Born in Transkei, South Africa.                         
- 1942               - Qualified in law.
- 1944               - Joined the African National Congress.
- 1948               - Engaged in resistance against the ruling National.
- 1960               - Argued for the setting up of a military wing within the ANC.
- 1961               - Went on Trail for treason.
                           - Get Acquitted.
                           - The ANC Executive considered Mandela's proposal violent act.
- 1962               - Get arrested and sentenced for five years.
- 1963               - Mandela was brought to Stand Trail.
- 1964               - Eight of the accused including Mandela were sentenced to life
                             imprisonment.
- 1964 to 1982   - He was incarcerated at Robben Island prison.
- 1990                - Was released.
- 1991                - Mandela was elected president of the ANC.
